Dr. Brent Pennington, a native of Clarksville, Tennessee, founded Nashville Skin in 2005. He specializes in the prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer. Dr. Pennington received his Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry and mathematics from Vanderbilt University where he was awarded the Founder’s Medal as the valedictorian of the university’s College of Arts and Science. He then attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine and was elected by his peers into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Pennington completed his internship at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in Manhattan. He returned to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a three-year residency in dermatology. Following residency, Dr. Pennington completed a fellowship at Yale University in Mohs micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology where he furthered his skills in the treatment of skin cancer. Dr. Pennington is a Fellow and board certified dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology. He was elected into the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology in recognition of his extensive training in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer. He has authored several articles in national medical journals on dermatology and skin cancer. In addition, he has served as a presenter at the national meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Adrian O. Rodriguez joined Nashville Skin in July 2007. His primary focus is in medical and surgical dermatology, including skin cancer, psoriasis, wound healing, and complex medical dermatology. He also provides cosmetic and aesthetic services such as laser resurfacing, dermal fillers (Juvederm family, Volbella, Vollure, Voluma), and Botox botulinum toxin. Dr. Rodriguez received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of California, San Diego in 1994. He pursued advanced training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, joining the Medical Scholars Program with appointments in the Department of Biochemistry and College of Medicine. While there, he was the recipient of a National Cancer Institute Predoctoral Fellowship. He received the Adolph O. Rostenberg Award in Dermatology from the University of Illinois. After earning his M.D. in 2003, Dr. Rodriguez pursued his clinical training, which included an internship at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville through the University of Tennessee Internal Medicine program, followed by a residency in dermatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In addition to authoring several articles in national peer-reviewed medical journals in biochemistry and dermatology, Dr. Rodriguez has also presented at various national meetings. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the Tennessee Dermatology Society (TDS), the Nashville Dermatology Society (NDS), the Tennessee Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (TSLMS), and the American Medical Association (AMA). He has served as President of the Tennessee Dermatology Society (2015) and the Nashville Dermatology Society (2009-2014). Dr. Rodriguez currently serves on the Board of Directors of TDS and TSLMS. He is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member in the Department of Medicine, University of TN Health Sciences Center, St. Thomas Midtown, Nashville, TN.
Dr. Jennifer Martin, a native of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, joined the practice of Nashville Skin in 2006. Dr. Martin is a medical dermatologist who treats both pediatric and adult patients. Her focus includes acne, psoriasis, eczema, diseases of the skin and nails, atypical moles, skin cancer, and aesthetic dermatology. Dr. Martin earned her Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Kentucky, where she graduated summa cum laude. She then attended the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, and received her Doctor of Medicine graduating cum laude. Dr. Martin completed her internship, followed by one year of research in dermatology at Vanderbilt University. She also completed a three-year dermatology residency at Vanderbilt. Dr. Martin is a board certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has authored several articles in national peer-reviewed medical journals and has participated as an investigator in clinical trials. In addition, she has served as a presenter at the national meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Society of Pediatric Dermatology.
Dr. Lorien Sites, a native of McMinnville, Tennessee, joined Nashville Skin in July 2009. She is interested in general and medical dermatology in both adults and children as well as cosmetic and procedural dermatology. Dr. Sites earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Rhodes College where she graduated summa cum laude. She attended the University of Tennessee School of Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Medicine, summa cum laude. Dr. Sites completed her internship at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and then she moved to Nashville to complete her three-year dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While at Vanderbilt, she received extensive training in both medical and surgical dermatology as well as lasers and cosmetics. Dr. Sites has authored numerous articles in national peer-reviewed medical journals in dermatology. She is board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Women’s Dermatological Society, and several other local medical societies.
Dr. Brooke Eastham, a native of Jackson, Tennessee, joined Nashville Skin in July 2014. She is interested in general and medical dermatology for both adults and children and specializes in the treatment of connective tissue diseases as well as cosmetic and procedural dermatology. Dr. Eastham graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and received the Faculty Medal for highest academic achievement. Dr. Eastham was the first medical student to receive the Hershel P. Wall, MD Exemplary Service Award in recognition of her dedication to leadership and community service. Dr. Eastham completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She then completed her dermatology residency at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, where she trained at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Boston, Lahey Clinic, Boston Veteran Affairs Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. During her residency, Dr. Eastham received additional training in the Connective Tissue Disease Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she specialized in the diagnosis and management of lupus, dermatomyositis, pityriasis rubra pilaris, and many other multisystem diseases. While at Harvard, she also received extensive training in lasers and cosmetics, including treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, and the use of lasers in the treatment of rosacea, scars, and skin rejuvenation. Dr. Eastham has also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at both national and international meetings. She is board certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, as well as an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and Tennessee Dermatology Society.
Dr. Sara Kantrow, a native of Baton Rouge, LA, joined Nashville Skin in July 2009. She specializes in medical dermatology, prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer and dermatopathology. Dr. Kantrow received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University. She majored in molecular biology and graduated summa cum laude. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Vanderbilt University. Dr. Kantrow completed her internship at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in Manhattan. She returned to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and completed a three-year residency in dermatology. Dr. Kantrow was selected a Fellow in dermatopathology by the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and received extensive training in melanocytic lesions, cutaneous malignancies, and inflammatory dermatoses. Prior to joining Nashville Skin, Dr. Kantrow was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Division of Dermatology. Dr. Kantrow is a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist. She has authored several articles in national peer-reviewed dermatology and dermatopathology journals and has presented at the national meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as the American Society of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Shi Fay Cheng’s expertise is in general medical and surgical dermatology for both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Cheng graduated from Cornell University with Distinction in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry. She participated in the summer internship program at the National Institutes of Health during college. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Chicago-Pritzker School of Medicine in 1990. She then completed an Internal Medicine internship and residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center followed by Dermatology residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 1996. Since then, she has been in private practice in Atlanta and Colorado until relocating once again to Nashville. Dr. Cheng is board-certified in Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Board of Dermatology. She has published several articles in national peer-reviewed journals in immunology and dermatology.
Dr. Adam Allan has earned a reputation as a dedicated professional in the dermatology field. He is an expert in the fields of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. He is a native of Florida, but family has brought him to Nashville, TN. He joined the Nashville Skin & Cancer team in July 2017. In addition to being a Dermatologist, Dr. Allan is a Field Surgeon in the Army National Guard. Dr. Allan graduated from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. He then earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), where he was elected to the Sigma Sigma Phi Honorary Society. While at LECOM, he received multiple academic scholarships, was awarded the Academic Achievement Award for the class of 2013, and was chosen to be the LECOM Ambassador Coordinator. Dr. Allan completed his internship at Michigan State University – Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He then completed his dermatology residency at Michigan State University – St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. During residency, he was a clinical instructor for Michigan State University and was a cosmetic coordinator, where he became proficient at Botox, dermal fillers, and laser procedures. In his final year of training, he was elected by his faculty to be chief resident. Dr. Allan joined the Army National Guard in 2009, acquiring a number of distinctions and medals throughout the past decade. During medical school, he served as an Army Medical Department recruiter and subsequently became a Field Surgeon, currently holding the rank of Captain. He is passionate about developing his leadership skills and serving his country. Above all, Dr. Adam Allan is a family man who consistently strives to be a loving husband and supportive father. When he isn’t advancing his multiple vocations, he enjoys mountain biking and exploring new places. But what he values the most is the quality time he gets to spend with his amazing family and friends.
Dr. Rachel Howald, a native of Springfield, IL, joined Nashville Skin in January 2019. She is an expert in Mohs micrographic surgery, general dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Redenius earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, where she graduated summa cum laude. She attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where she finished at the top of her class and was elected by faculty and her peers into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Howald stayed at Southern Illinois University to complete her internship in Internal Medicine. She then relocated to Nashville for her three-year dermatology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Following residency, Dr. Redenius completed a Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University / University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. During her fellowship, she received extensive training on advanced reconstruction following the removal of skin cancers as well as additional instruction in cosmetic dermatology. She finished her fellowship in July 2017 and worked as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine before joining Nashville Skin. Dr. Howald has authored multiple articles in national peer-reviewed medical journals as well as several book chapters. She has also presented at national meetings. She is board certified in dermatology and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery and an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Women’s Dermatological Society, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the International Peeling Society. Dr. Howald enjoys hiking, exercising, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband in her spare time.
Walt Sims, PA-C, MPAS is a Certified Physician Assistant. In 1998 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He received his Master of Physician Assistant Studies Degree (MPAS) with concentration in Dermatology from the University of Nebraska. Prior to being trained in Dermatology, he worked in emergency medicine with the United States Army. Walt is a Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Air Force Reserve, who has served a tour of duty in Iraq. As a Physician Assistant who has received specialized training in dermatology, Walt is licensed and qualified to perform a comprehensive dermatological examination, diagnose, treat, and prescribe appropriate medical therapy for your dermatologic needs. He is skilled in performing procedures that include shave biopsies, punch biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy and laser treatments.
Mrs. Kalyn Crosby is originally from Kentucky but came to Nashville in 2003 to attend Vanderbilt University. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Human and Organizational development with a focus in Health Services. She stayed on at Vanderbilt to complete her Masters in Nursing in 2008, where she graduated summa cum laude in her class. Kalyn has worked in Dermatology for 8 years prior to joining Nashville Skin. She is an active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Dermatology Nurses Association. Kalyn is certified in administering Botox and dermal fillers, and treats a wide array of medical dermatology needs. She also does full-body skin cancer screenings and can perform biopsies and small skin surgeries. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband and three children.
